Not directly. The stand takes a micro-USB cable, so a USB-C cable will not plug into it. Check your cable before you order and keep a micro-USB cable on the desk. Once it is plugged in, the blue LED confirms power.
Will a thick or metal phone case block charging?

It can. Wireless charging works through a thin case, but thick or metal cases get in the way of the induction field and can stop charging. Remove the case or switch to a thin non-metal one, then center the phone on the raised support.
