Description

Pour a whiskey with one large clear sphere in the glass and the drink stays bold for longer. This 5cm ball mold makes crisp, clear spheres that melt slower than cubes and look like a proper bar pour. Built for home bartenders and party hosts who want the ice to be part of the show.

Makes large 5cm round ice spheres that melt slowly and look premium in whiskey and cocktails

Solves
  • regular cube ice melts too fast and dilutes drinks
  • standard ice trays only make small cubes
  • need for decorative ice in bar and party drinks

Clear spheres that outlast every cube in your glass

Tired of watered-down whiskey from tiny cubes? One 5cm ball mold makes large clear spheres that melt slower and make every pour look like a bar.

Built to snap shut and pop out clean

Closed clear ice mold with a lime clip on a wet surface

Snap shut, pop out clean

The mold is two hemispherical shells that lock together with side latches. The colored clip opens it, and a small hole in the top lets you fill the cavity without pulling the halves apart. Once the water is frozen solid, the sphere lifts out of the clear shell in one piece.

Hand holding clear and amber ice spheres made from the mold

Big sphere, slower melt

A 4.8 cm sphere has less surface for its volume than a cube, so it gives up its water more slowly. Your whiskey stays closer to the strength you poured, and the last sip tastes like the first.

Open clear ice molds beside a tray holding clear and amber spheres

Clear ice, bar-grade look

The shell is transparent, so you can watch the water freeze and check the clarity before you pour. The finished spheres come out crisp and glassy, and an amber sphere in the same batch shows how the ice looks with a darker spirit in the glass.

Fill, freeze, and pop out your sphere

  1. 1
    Open the mold

Pull the bright colored clip and separate the two clear halves.

  2. 2
    Fill through the top hole

Pour cold or room temperature water through the small hole until the cavity is full. Skip boiling water, which can warp the plastic over time.

  3. 3
    Close and set it upright

Press the halves together until the side latches click shut. The small feet keep the mold steady on the freezer shelf.

  4. 4
    Freeze until solid

Leave it in the freezer until the water is frozen all the way through.

  5. 5
    Run it under cool water

Hold the mold under cool water for a few seconds, then open the clip and lift the sphere out.

Questions and answers

Is a budget plastic mold worth it for whiskey?
w
Wanelo · seller

The shell is PS+ plastic with a silicone plug, and it is light and simple by design. For a home bar, the value is in the result. One mold turns plain tap water into a big clear sphere every time you fill it, so each sphere costs you almost nothing beyond the freezer space. A premium sphere maker costs far more and is overkill for a casual host.

Is the plastic safe for drinks, and does it stay clear?
w
Wanelo · seller

Wash the mold with warm soapy water before the first use and rinse it well. Keep it out of boiling water. Used this way, the shell stays clear and the ice inside stays clean.

Will the sphere stick or crack when I pop it out?
w
Wanelo · seller

Freeze it until the water is solid all the way through. Then run the mold under cool water for a few seconds before you open the clip. Forcing the shell while the ice is still soft is what causes cracks.

Does a 4.8 cm sphere really melt slower than cubes?
w
Wanelo · seller

Yes. A sphere has less surface for its volume than a cube, so less of it touches the drink at once. Exact timing depends on your glass and the room, but the dilution slows down noticeably. If you already own a set of , keep them for mixers and use the sphere for the spirit.

Does the 4.8 cm ball fit a rocks glass?
w
Wanelo · seller

Yes. At 4.8 cm the sphere is well under the width of a standard rocks glass, so it drops in and sits on the bottom with room for your pour.

What color will I get?
w
Wanelo · seller

Each pack contains one mold, and the clip color is assigned at random. The shell itself is clear in every color.
