Pour in hot water and watch the night sky turn into a full solar system

Solves
  • boring everyday mug
  • finding a unique gift for space lovers

Pour in hot water and the black night sky becomes a full solar system.

Your morning mug looks like a starry night until the coffee or tea goes in. Above 60°C the glaze shifts, and Mercury through Pluto appear in full color across the glossy ceramic. As the cup cools, the planets fade back into the dark, ready for the next pour.

Two mugs in one, black night and full solar system

Night sky that turns into a solar system

The glaze changes color when water is above 60°C, so the planets come up as the cup warms. Both sides of the mug respond, which means the reveal is not limited to one angle. When the drink cools, the design returns to the black starry surface, so the mug is ready for the next pour.

Close-up of solar system print with labeled planets on ceramic mug

Every planet, labeled and easy to spot

The print runs from Mercury to Pluto with each planet named, so the design works as a conversation piece and not just a pattern. Guests can point to Saturn or Mars without asking what they are looking at.

Built for daily use, 330ml at a time

At 330ml with a C-shaped handle, the mug holds a full coffee or tea without feeling bulky. The glossy ceramic sits well on a desk next to a laptop and notebook, so it stays in the daily rotation instead of living in a cupboard.

Pour hot water and watch the planets appear

  1. 1
    Start with a dark-side mug

Set the mug on the counter or desk. The black side shows white stars and a shooting star.

  2. 2
    Pour water above 60°C

Fresh coffee, black tea, or any hot drink above 60°C triggers the glaze. Fill to the 330ml mark or below.

  3. 3
    Watch the planets come up

The solar system appears in full color, with each planet labeled. Hold the mug and look at both sides.

  4. 4
Let it cool and go again

As the drink cools, the design fades back to black. Reheat with the next pour and the planets return.

Questions and answers

Does the design work with lukewarm or iced drinks?
w
Wanelo · seller

No. The reveal needs water above 60°C. Lukewarm liquid shows only part of the solar system, and iced drinks show none of it. Hot coffee and hot tea do the job.

What water temperature do I need to see the planets?
w
Wanelo · seller

Anything above 60°C. Freshly brewed coffee or tea is hot enough. Let the mug cool and the design fades back to the black starry side.

Does the design fade back to black after the drink cools?
w
Wanelo · seller

Yes. The color change is a heat response, so it repeats with every hot pour instead of wearing off after a few uses.

Is the design on the inside or outside of the mug?
w
Wanelo · seller

The reveal is on the outside of the mug, across the black glossy body. Both sides change, so the planets show from either angle.

Is this a gimmick or a mug I will use every day?
w
Wanelo · seller

Both sides of the question land on the same answer. At 330ml, a daily cup of coffee or tea is the intended use, and the reveal happens with the drink you already make. Plan on roughly 660 days of daily use from one mug. For more ideas, browse .
